On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I am delighted to welcome you to the 7th Human Brain Project Summit in the city of Athens, Greece. The Open Day is under the Auspices of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos endorsing the value of collaboration in the fields of neuroscience, medicine and computing sectors in Greece. I would also like to thank the University of Athens for helping augment the content and impact of the Summit and the Open Day.
Athens, with a world-renowned cultural, political, scientific and economic presence of 25 centuries, rises as a brilliant place to host the Summit of one the most ambitious and productive Science & Technology Research Infrastructure Projects in Europe today. Athens lies in the heart of the booming East Mediterranean area, on the crossroads of three continents. This allows its 4 million population to develop a strong cosmopolitan sense, a mentality of fusing ideas and resources into new and bold endeavors, a vision towards a knowledge- and technology-intensive post-crisis society.
A strong community of scientists, developers and visionaries, from four Universities and 3 Research Centers in Athens, working in HBP-related fields is guaranteed to offer a welcoming ground for the presentation and exchange of ideas during the Summit & the Open Day – and beyond.
Me and the dedicated team of people and institutions behind this event are looking forward to an inspiring and productive Summit!
Prof. Yannis Ioannidis
Local Host of the HBP Summit,
